MD Anderson Showcases EndTobacco Programs and Partnerships at the National Conference on Tobacco or Health

The EndTobaccoâ„¢ team from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center had an exciting and impactful week at the 2025 National Conference on Tobacco or Health (#NCTOH2025). As a proud conference sponsor, the EndTobacco team engaged in speaking opportunities, poster presentations and knowledge-sharing sessions with public health leaders from across the country.

Several team members highlighted program successes and collaborative projects:

  • Mehwish Javaid, P.M.P., and Jennifer Cofer, Dr.P.H., M.P.H., C.H.E.S., presented pilot project outcomes from three Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Community Health Centers (CHCs) working to expand their tobacco treatment services.
  • Jennifer Cofer, Dr.P.H., M.P.H., C.H.E.S., participated on a panel with Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and the American Lung Association to co-present on Framing Tobacco Policy Messages in Conservative States.
  • Darrien Skinner, M.S., presented a poster showcasing health communication strategies from the Eliminate Tobacco Use (ETU) initiative for college campuses.
  • Shumeka Johnson, presented on the ASPIRE program, highlighting its nationwide student reach and impact.
  • Sarah Garcia, M.P.A., presented a poster on provider training opportunities, including Project ECHO TEACH and Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) training, which work together to increase provider knowledge and capacity to treat tobacco and nicotine addiction.

The EndTobacco team is proud to contribute to national conversations on advancing tobacco control, supporting providers and expanding prevention and cessation efforts. We remain committed to empowering health systems, campuses and communities to reduce the burden of tobacco and nicotine use.
